A mobile phone with interchangeable casing
At the time of unibody phones, CMF is ahead of European regulations that would make it easier to replace components like batteries. First of all, This phone allows you to change the back cover, have a phone with a different color and finish. It has its own tool to remove the four screws holding the casing but, if we lose it, they can be removed without problems with a five-size flat screwdriver.
An important detail is that The screws are stainless steel. This is key so that they don’t rust or break easily, as we will lose the phone’s original functionality.
The cover of the CMF Phone 1 is removed the old-school way: by removing the screws
When we remove the back cover we find nothing like the trims on the Phone 1. Here we are looking at an old school mobile, whose components are exposed without much development. Of course, the battery takes up so much space that we can’t see many of the components inside. The first time I took the CMF Phone 1 apart I couldn’t help but feel tremendous nostalgia: how enjoyable something as simple as removing the back cover is.
The bottom left of the phone has a small button that rotates. When we remove it, we can attach different accessories to the phone: a wallet, a surface holder and a holding strap (for now). This is another spectacular element for adding accessories locally to the phone.
Regarding materials, the phone is finished in plastic with some metallic finish like the camera housing. The feel is non-slip and anti-fingerprint: it’s not a plastic we’ve tried before.
Hardware that doesn’t require much
CMF Phone 1 has one MediaTek Dimension 7300, a processor we’ve already seen in phones that cost more than twice as much. It is available in Spain with two memory configurations: both with 8 GB of base RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory, expandable via SD. A configuration suitable for any mid-range phone.
The ROM is signed by Nothing with Nothing OS, along with two years of operating system updates and three years of security patches. We miss another year of updates with how clean the ROM is, but Nothing OS is one of our favorite systems.
Surprisingly, despite being a mid-range phone, it has one Liquid Refrigeration. Using a high thermal conductivity heat pipe, it dissipates heat away from the chip. Materials such as graphite have also been used to alleviate high temperatures.
The Battery 5,000mAh, with 33W fast charging, is probably one of the set’s weakest points. CMF has configured many modes in the settings to charge more efficiently and save as much battery life as possible
The panel is 6.67 inches, AMOLED and with a maximum brightness of 2,000 nit. Of course, typical brightness is only 700 nits, so don’t expect a top-of-the-range panel. It’s compatible with HDR10+, and runs between 30 and 120 Hz, despite not being LTPO type.
Finally, note that the phone has a 50-megapixel camera backed by an auxiliary depth sensor. We don’t find ultra wide angles. It is compatible with Google’s Ultra HDR technology and promises the best results.
CMF Phone 1 Price and Availability
CMF Phone 1 at a groundbreaking price in Spain: from 239 euros. The version with a larger internal memory capacity costs only 30 euros more. The recommendation here is clear: big horses.
