We’re just two weeks away from the presentation of Google’s Pixel 9 family, which we already know will include at least one Pixel 9 Pro and one Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The rumors and leaks don’t stop coming, and one of the latest is particularly interesting.
Hello, Pixel 9 Pro “Compact”. A few months ago it was leaked that there would be a new member in the family, the Pixel 9 Pro XL. That model will not only be bigger than the current Pixel 8 Pro, and they will only take advantage of that final designation to bring to market a variant that creates a lot of anticipation: a Pixel 9 Pro that will theoretically be “compact”. At least, if we compare him to his elder brother.
Alternative to iPhone 15 Pro. Google’s move, if confirmed, means we’re facing a family that will compete directly with Apple’s iPhone. The Pixel 9 will compete against the iPhone 15, the Pixel 9 Pro against the iPhone 15 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL against the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It doesn’t look like there will be a “Pixel 9 Plus”, mind you.
Regarding size. According to The latest leak, Google Pixel 9 Pro will have a screen diagonal of 6.34 inches. The current Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch screen, so if these data are confirmed, we will see a terminal that will not be really small, but it will be clearly more compact than the current Pixel 8 Pro with 6.7-inches. According to the screen 91Mobiles/OnlinesThe Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a slightly larger diagonal, 6.8 inches.
A compact armed to the teeth. All in all, users who prefer a mobile phone that is slightly smaller in size will find the Pixel 9 Pro an excellent candidate. Except for the battery capacity, logically lower than the Pixel 9 Pro XL, we will see terminals that will have the best hardware features available in the family. There will be no sacrifice other than the battery mentioned above.
The promise of AI. As Samsung has already done with its Galaxy S24, artificial intelligence will play a major role in this terminal. The mobile phone with the Pro designation will have 16 GB of RAM, which will enhance the use of Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini.
Separated from Samsung. When Samsung introduced its Galaxy S24, it did so by maintaining the classic distinction. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, its flagship, has a 6.8-inch screen and competes directly with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but there is no “compact” variant from the 6.2-inch Galaxy S24, which still proved to be a great option among us. The analysis cuts to the set of processors (Exynos 2400 vs Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) and cameras.
Who loved small cell phones. A few years ago, manufacturers left more compact sizes behind, and today mobile phones almost always exceed six inches of screen diagonal. The love for small mobile phones is still almost in its nostalgic version, but the big screen has won the battle and they have done so with good reason. Those who have tried to bring back the small cell phone have failed, and the Pebble is a good example of that.
If confirmed, good for Google. Despite this, manufacturers typically save their best hardware options for the biggest (and most expensive) phones, and Google’s move allows them to enjoy an option that until now only Apple could preserve: the best of the best, in two forms. And then, let the user decide.
We will see you on August 13. Leaks surrounding the Pixel 9 keep coming, but for now they’re just that. All these details need to be confirmed, and that’s exactly what we at Engadget will do when Google presents its devices We’ll be covering the event and everything revealed on August 13 at 7:00 pm Spanish time.
